Question 1: Why should I consider Pathways to Leadership®?

Many organizations attempt to build effective leadership, greater employee morale and strategic thinking through training courses or retreats. You may have been down this road yourself. Unfortunately, these programs often lack sustainability. Disappointed, these companies receive short-lived changes, low employee commitment and a quick recurrence of past issues.

Pathways to Leadership® is different. Most importantly, the program focuses on a client's best asset - its people. Our program allows leaders, teams and individuals to grow - both personally and professionally - through hands-on experience, reinforcement systems, various learning formats and ongoing support.

The Pathways to Leadership® process builds essential elements that support a healthy culture rather than the typical approach of attempting to fix the symptoms of an unhealthy culture. This "upstream" approach delivers long-term results with a foundation of communication, trust and integrity. Clients then reap the overall benefits such as loyal personnel, proficient leaders, efficient processes and greater productivity - all factors which impact the bottom line. Without a Wellness Culture in place, efforts for change are largely ineffective.

Question 2: What exactly is a Wellness Culture?

Company culture is determined by two factors: How employees relate to one another and their perception of the organization. Culture, whether healthy, toxic, or simply ineffective, significantly impacts an organization's ability to strategically plan and execute.

A Wellness Culture possesses these primary attributes:
  • It builds robust systems for the future while envisioning the "Big Picture."
  • It allows individuals to expand their abilities and fully contribute to organizational goals.
  • It builds leadership from within.
  • It focuses on strengths rather than weaknesses; solutions rather than problems.

A true Wellness Culture is driven and supported by the employees. It includes a high level of individual leadership, a forward-focused approach, cross-functional alignment, interdepartmental cooperation, and an enhanced bottom line. Challenges still arise, but with a Wellness Culture in place, solutions are streamlined. Resistance to change and the common "assignment of blame" mentality are gradually eliminated.

Question 3: Why do we need a Wellness Culture?

Without a Wellness Culture, an organization and its people can't reach their greatest potential. People, time, energy and money are wasted putting out fires, handling turnover, retraining, and dealing with employee disengagement and customer service issues - the very problems a Wellness Culture solves.

Question 4: How can one Pathways to Leadership program change my organization's work culture?

When one participant incorporates their Pathways to Leadership® tools and skills in the work environment, employees take notice! We consistently see how one team member's new method of operation and increased desire for cultural progress has a profound effect on those around them. Consequently, the more teams who experience the Pathways to Leadership process, the faster a culture shifts into high gear (see Case Study #9). Please keep in mind that Pathways is not a short-term solution. Those who desire a quick-fix are not a good fit for our program. We are committed to long-term solutions and real results.

Question 5: Who should attend a Pathways to Leadership program?

The program is primarily designed for senior leaders, managers, supervisors, team leaders, sales, customer service, and professional personnel. It's designed for those who can significantly impact the most important resource of an organization - its people. This early participation by senior employees creates a strong foundation for the entire organization.

Once the Wellness Culture is established, the Pathways Journey program is available for hourly employees.

Question 6: How do we know that Pathways to Leadership will meet our needs?

Our Strategic Partnerships department works closely with senior leaders to best assess primary needs and objectives. This discovery phase allows us to customize a program for your organization and maximize your benefits. In addition, the highly-trained Pathways to Leadership Facilitator speaks with key leaders and reviews participants' Confidential Needs Assessment. Finally, to establish trust, communication and significant rapport, the facilitator speaks with a cross-section of the participants prior to training. (See Guarantee)

Question 8: Research shows that most corporate trainings are not effective. We've tried other programs and they didn't stick. What makes Pathways to Leadership sustainable?

For training to be effective, one must first gain employee commitment to the organization's goals. Before teaching the Pathways to Leadership skills, strategies and methods, we effectively address this "human piece" of the puzzle. This provides the required foundation for effective learning. At this point, the training evolves to a process with complete ownership by participants.

A vital component to the program's sustainability and success is our Pathways Ongoing Integration & Sustainability (POIS) process. This unique process allows participants to consistently apply learned material through a variety of formats: small group interaction, partner peer support, online resources and self-led applications.

Because participants readily apply Pathways to Leadership in the workplace and at home, they quickly internalize the new model.

Question 9: How does Pathways to Leadership fit with the other programs we already have in place?

Pathways to Leadership enhances the value of existing programs. Clients report that the Pathways process is the vehicle that actually allows them to better implement other training. With the Pathways to Leadership foundation in place, these programs become even more effective.

Question 10: How can I justify taking four days out of my week - or my team's week - for this training?

Client Dan Stinchcomb, Executive Vice President of Research and Development at Heska Corporation, explains it well:

"Taking four days to start on a path that will reap benefits for years to come, four days to learn and achieve a level of understanding of our colleagues and teammates that will help you work together more productively, four days that will give you tools that allow you to balance your professional life with your personal life, four days of an investment for that kind of benefit - that's a bargain."

In addition, clients can access the Graduates Only section of our website, which includes weekly challenges, resource materials, ongoing integration ideas and success stories.
