This opportunity is available to nonprofit groups only.

PLI provides the facilitator and direct training materials at no cost. Your responsibility is coordinating the training logistics, travel, the cost of the training room, set up with the required equipment and meals for attendees.

The only consistency is change

Both Corporate America and the nonprofit sector are challenged by turnover and constant change. Cary Rentola, Marketing and Community Events Manager for Larimer Humane Society reports, "In the last twenty-four months I have worked for three different Executive Directors and two Directors of Operations." Rentola further explains that thanks to the Pathways to Leadership training, she now has the tools that assist her specifically with both adapting to change and driving change.

Smaller staffs are asked to do more with less, which creates demand for flexible and diverse personnel. Thanks to the Pathways Ongoing Integration and Sustainability (POIS) process, which enables participants to integrate, share and practice the Pathways' leadership skills, Rentola is seeing results that stick far beyond the initial 4-day training. "POIS provides opportunities for both team and one-on-one relationships that break down old cliques and generate sincere conversations and results at the operations level." Think of the time and resources any company may save when there is full free two-way information flow.

One unique component of nonprofit organizations is that every relationship is essential to the financial wellness and mission success of the organization. The most direct financial resource comes from both corporate and private sponsorships. Media relationships impact revenue because it provides vital promotional advertising for fundraising events. Even customers of nonprofit services are vital word-of-mouth advocates and often become sponsors. Given these many valuable relationships, the communication tools and concepts from a Pathways to Leadership program are priceless for growth.

Like most organizations, nonprofits' staffs are a variety of ages, longevity, and skill sets. The great common denominator in nonprofit organizations' personnel is the passion to serve. This pure passion can work against the overall mission of a nonprofit because it can generate a single mindedness that limits options and creates a defensive mindset. Rentola notes that a few short weeks since the training, she has already seen divisiveness take a back seat to cooperation. For example, instead of telling the team how to involve community veterinarians, one Larimer Humane staffer asked the team for their ideas to reward participating veterinarians in a more public way. The result was an innovative solution and more importantly, the group succeeded with their idea.

Regardless of the profit status of an organization, its success relies heavily on people. Given the simple premise that work culture has a powerful impact on home culture and visa/versa - that it is in fact one life - it makes sense to provide opportunities for everyone to grow all relationships and culture both at home and at work.
